The depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression and is expected to develop into a cyclone by 27 November 2024, according to the Meteorological Department of Sri Lanka.
As of 11:30 am on 26 November, the system was located approximately 280 km southeast of Trincomalee and is predicted to move close to Sri Lanka's eastern coastline.

- Very heavy rainfall exceeding 150 mm is forecasted in the Northern, North-Central, Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee district.
- Other areas of the island may also experience heavy rainfall of up to 100 mm.

- Winds ranging from 40-50 kmph are expected in the Northern, North-Central, Central, North-Western, and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Hambantota district.
- Cloudy Skies: Widespread cloud cover is anticipated across the island, along with frequent showers or thundershowers.

The Meteorological Department has urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimize the hazards associated with temporary strong winds and lightning, particularly during thundershowers.
