Pivithuru Hela Urumaya leader and Member of Parliament Udaya Gammanpila held a special press conference at his party headquarters, revealing key findings from the investigation into the Easter Sunday bombings that shook Sri Lanka.

Gammanpila disclosed that prior to the attacks, a foreign intelligence unit had issued a warning about an impending suicide bombing. This critical intelligence had been communicated to the then Deputy Inspector General of Police, Ravi Senaviratne, via a highly confidential letter. However, according to Gammanpila, the necessary actions were not taken for 12 days, resulting in the deadly bombings.

"If Ravi Senaviratne had acted on the intelligence immediately, all the bombers could have been arrested before they carried out the attacks," Gammanpila stated. He further called for Senaviratne to be held criminally accountable for his failure to prevent the tragedy.

Additionally, Gammanpila highlighted the role of former Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director Shani Abeysekera in the case, citing a report that recommends filing criminal charges against Abeysekera for not properly carrying out his duties in relation to the Easter attacks.

The investigation report has also recommended criminal proceedings against seven government officials who are believed to have neglected their responsibilities in preventing the attacks.

Gammanpila's statements come as part of ongoing demands for accountability and justice for the victims of the Easter Sunday bombings. The revelations add to the growing public pressure for transparency and action regarding the failures that led to the tragic loss of life.
