Sri Lanka's Minister of Public Security, Mr. Vijitha Herath, has assured the public that the country’s security remains robust and stable, countering recent rumors circulating on social media about potential threats. Addressing these concerns, the Minister emphasized that there is no reason for the public to fear for their safety, stating that Sri Lanka’s security apparatus is fully operational and vigilant.
"The Security Situation is Strong," says Minister Herath
Minister Herath noted that Sri Lanka’s security forces are highly capable and well-coordinated, working continuously to safeguard the nation. He urged the public to rely on credible information channels rather than being influenced by rumors or false information on social media, which he said could create unnecessary anxiety.
“Our security infrastructure is strong, and we are actively monitoring and addressing any potential threats. People can trust the strength of our security forces, who are fully committed to maintaining peace and stability across the country,” the Minister assured in his statement.
Safe Environment for Tourism
Highlighting the government’s commitment to tourism, Minister Herath added that Sri Lanka has established a safe environment where tourists can explore the country freely. He emphasized that the tourism sector, which has shown strong recovery post-pandemic, is a priority, and security measures are in place to support the industry’s growth.
“We have created a welcoming environment for tourists, with enhanced security measures in key travel destinations,” he stated. The Minister encouraged international visitors to experience Sri Lanka’s diverse culture, landscapes, and hospitality without concern, underscoring the government’s commitment to making the country a safe travel destination.
Government’s Stance on Misinformation
Minister Herath also addressed the impact of misinformation, urging citizens to verify facts from official government sources rather than relying on unverified social media posts. He reaffirmed that the government’s communication channels would provide accurate updates on security matters to avoid public confusion.
As Sri Lanka continues to stabilize economically and socially, the government remains focused on preserving peace, supporting tourism, and maintaining public safety. Through coordinated efforts, the Ministry of Public Security aims to sustain a secure environment for both residents and visitors, contributing to Sri Lanka’s long-term development and international reputation.
