Ratnapura — President Anura Dissanayake announced that negotiations are underway with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to draft a favorable budget for the coming year. Speaking at a rally organized by the National People's Party in Ratnapura, President Dissanayake emphasized the government’s commitment to developing a budget that would address key economic needs, with a particular focus on public sector employees.
"Officials from the Ministry of Finance, including one of our economic advisors, are holding discussions with the International Monetary Fund of the United States to prepare a better budget, one that reflects our proposals," he stated during the rally.
The President revealed that increasing public sector salaries has become a priority in these budget discussions. Given the challenges faced by public servants amid rising living costs, he assured that this year’s budget would address their concerns and aim to improve overall economic conditions for workers in government roles.
These talks with the IMF underscore a collaborative approach to addressing Sri Lanka’s economic challenges, as the government seeks to balance fiscal responsibility with essential reforms. The proposed budget, supported by insights from the IMF and guided by national priorities, aims to stimulate economic growth and provide much-needed relief for citizens.
As the government’s economic team continues its discussions with IMF representatives, the upcoming budget will likely reflect a combination of fiscal prudence and progressive measures aimed at stabilizing the economy and enhancing the welfare of public sector employees.
