Dissanayake announced that discussions are underway with the International
Monetary Fund (IMF) to draft a favorable budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
Speaking at a National People's Party rally in Ratnapura, the President emphasized
the government’s commitment to addressing key economic challenges while
prioritizing the needs of public sector employees.
Public Sector Salaries as a Priority
The President acknowledged the financial struggles faced by public servants due to rising living costs. He highlighted that increasing public sector salaries has become a central focus of this year’s budget discussions. "Officials from the Ministry of Finance, along with one of our economic advisors, are engaged in discussions with the International Monetary Fund of the United States to draft a better budget that aligns with our proposals," he stated.
