Minister Vijitha Herath Reaffirms Commitment to Easter Attack Probe, Rejects Political Criticism

Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Vijitha Herath reiterated the government’s dedication to a transparent investigation into the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks. Responding to recent remarks by former MP Udaya Gammanpila, who claimed the investigation reports would soon be made public, Herath assured that legal actions against those responsible are underway.

"Before we came to power, we pledged to launch a clear and transparent investigation into the Easter attack. That process has already begun, and I assure you that, based on this investigation, legal action will be taken against those responsible. What we promised then, we are fulfilling now," he stated.

Addressing Criticisms

Herath dismissed criticisms from political opponents, likening them to attention-seeking distractions. "Some individuals, defeated in politics, act out for attention like little kids smashing toys. We don't need to worry about them," he remarked, emphasizing the government’s focus on delivering justice over engaging in political rivalries.

Commitment to Justice

Herath reaffirmed that the investigation is being conducted responsibly and without political bias. He stressed that the government’s goal is accountability, not political gain. "These reports are not for political gain but for justice. The investigations will be completed soon, and the public will see the results," he added.
