K.D. Lalkantha, an executive member of the National People's Force and a candidate for the Kandy district, has issued a challenge to anyone, including the President or any Member of Parliament, who claims that the National People's Force will run the government without borrowing after coming to power. He demands evidence to back such statements.

Speaking at a media briefing following a discussion at the Kandy Youth Buddhist Association Hall, Lalkantha also addressed accusations regarding the current government's borrowing practices. He emphasized that borrowing, in itself, is not a crime—what matters is how loans are managed. "We need credit, but it must be used correctly, not wasted on theft, fraud, or corruption," he stated.

He pointed out that if the International Monetary Fund (IMF) withdraws from providing loans to Sri Lanka, it would signal abandonment of the current government. Some critics anticipated that the IMF would turn away from a Malimabe government, but Lalkantha insisted that the NPP operates with diplomacy. He called on accusers to monitor whether loans are being used effectively. "If the loans are being misused, criticize them. But don't make borrowing itself the issue," he remarked.

Regarding public service appointments, Lalkantha stressed that qualified and capable individuals from the administrative service should continue to be appointed to high-level positions, regardless of which government they previously served. "It doesn't matter whether an official worked under Ranil or Mahinda—what matters is if they are performing their duties effectively for the people," he added. He invited critics to evaluate the performance of these appointed officials, emphasizing that the NPP is focused on competen
ce, not political affiliations, amid the numerous challenges they face.
