"Gammanpila Issues 24-Hour Ultimatum to President Dissanayake on Easter Attack Reports

Former Member of Parliament Udaya Gammanpila has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, demanding the public release of unpublished reports related to the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks. Gammanpila warned that if the reports are not disclosed by 10 a.m. tomorrow, the President could face impeachment proceedings for failing in his constitutional duties.

Allegations of Non-Disclosure

Gammanpila criticized the President for withholding key findings from the reports, stating that this lack of transparency is a violation of Article 38 of the Constitution, which outlines the responsibilities of the Head of State. He emphasized the public’s right to know the details of one of the most devastating attacks in Sri Lanka’s history, which killed over 260 people and injured hundreds more.

"It is now his constitutional duty to release these reports and provide the transparency owed to the people of Sri Lanka," Gammanpila stated.

Threat of Public Disclosure

The former MP vowed to release the findings himself if the reports remain unpublished by the deadline.

"If the President chooses to continue withholding these reports, I will ensure that the people of Sri Lanka have access to the truth," he affirmed.

The reports have been a source of ongoing controversy, with political and religious leaders demanding full disclosure to address unresolved questions surrounding the attacks.

Political and Public Pressure

Gammanpila’s ultimatum comes amid growing calls for accountability regarding the Easter Sunday bombings. Critics argue that the government’s reluctance to release the findings undermines efforts to deliver justice and closure to the victims and their families.

As the deadline approaches, the President’s response—or lack thereof—could escalate the situation, potentially triggering impeachment proceedings or further political fallout.

Broader Implications

This ultimatum highlights the continuing public demand for accountability and transparency related to the 2019 tragedy. The next 24 hours could have significant implications for Sri Lanka’s political landscape and the current administration’s stability.
