The media unit of Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has refuted claims made in a statement by the Government Information Department regarding the use of official vehicles for his security. The department previously announced that several official vehicles had been assigned to the former president, but Rajapaksa’s media unit stated that the information provided was inaccurate.
According to the media unit's response, only six official vehicles had been allocated for his security, following an intelligence assessment. Additionally, they confirmed that three of these vehicles, including an ambulance, were scheduled to be returned to the Presidential Secretariat on October 21, 2024, as per the instructions of the Presidential Secretariat.
The media unit also emphasized that the intelligence reports and security assessments classify Mahinda Rajapaksa as the most threatened politician among Sri Lankan leaders, justifying the deployment of these vehicles for his security.
The media unit has called for the correction of the information previously circulated by the Government Information Department, ensuring that the public is accurately informed about the situation.
