An emergency situation declared at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) earlier today due to a bomb scare on an Indian passenger flight has officially been called off. After a thorough investigation, authorities confirmed no suspicious items or threats were found.
The incident occurred when Vistara flight UK 131 (A320 Neo), en route from Mumbai to Colombo, made an emergency landing following a reported bomb threat. Despite the alarming situation, the aircraft landed safely at 14:49 hrs, two minutes ahead of schedule.
Swift Response by Authorities
Upon receiving the threat, airport authorities and security agencies swiftly implemented precautionary measures, ensuring the safety of all 96 passengers and 8 crew members aboard. Passengers were immediately evacuated to the terminal while the aircraft and its surroundings underwent a meticulous search.
Sri Lanka’s Police Spokesman, DIG Nihal Thalduwa, confirmed that a comprehensive investigation was launched to verify the validity of the threat. Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) reported that standard safety protocols were followed throughout the ordeal.

The inspection revealed no suspicious items, confirming the bomb threat to be a false alarm. Following the all-clear, the emergency status at BIA was lifted, and normal operations resumed without disruptions.
