Father Cyril Gamini, spokesperson for Archbishop Cyril
Gamini, clarified that the Catholic Church has no interest in the Easter attack
commission report that former MP Udaya Gammanpila has indicated he intends to
release. He urged all parties to avoid politicizing the tragic events of Easter
Sunday.
Call for Independence in Investigations
Father Gamini emphasized that the Church never requested the former president to appoint an investigative committee for the Easter attacks. He also urged Gammanpila to refrain from interfering in the ongoing investigations, stressing that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) should be allowed to conduct its work thoroughly and independently.
Focus on Justice Over Politics
Father Gamini's statements highlight the importance of ensuring justice and fairness over political agendas, particularly in sensitive cases like the Easter attacks. The Church’s position reinforces the need for unbiased investigations to honour the victims and their families.
