The Department of Meteorology has issued an ‘Amber’ advisory for multi-day boats operating in the East-Central Bay of Bengal deep-sea areas. The warning cites the likelihood of heavy rain, strong winds, and rough seas due to a developing low-pressure area over the region.
According to the forecast, the low-pressure system is expected to form over the East-Central Bay of Bengal and the adjacent North Andaman Sea on October 21. It is projected to move northwestwards and intensify into a depression by October 23.
Predicted Weather Conditions
The advisory warns of:
- Very strong winds: Speeds ranging from 70 to 80 km/h.
- Heavy rainfall over affected sea areas.
- Rough sea conditions, posing risks to naval and fishing operations.
Precautionary Measures
The Department has urged naval and fishing communities to exercise extreme caution and take necessary precautions while operating in these regions. Vessel operators are advised to stay updated on weather developments and avoid venturing into affected areas if possible.
Regional Weather Instability
The advisory highlights ongoing instability in regional weather patterns, with potential for sudden intensification of weather systems. Mariners and stakeholders are advised to monitor updates closely to mitigate risks associated with adverse weather conditions.
