In addition to these setbacks, Dushmantha Chameera and Nuwan Thushara, who missed the T20Is, are also unavailable for the ODI series. Chameera is recovering from an illness, while Thushara is dealing with a fractured thumb.
The Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee announced a 16-member squad for the series, naming Charith Asalanka, who led the team in the T20 series, as the captain for the ODIs. Chamika Karunaratne has also made a return to the squad.
In light of the injuries, uncapped fast bowler Mohamed Shiraz has been called up to the squad. Shiraz, who has yet to make his international debut, has been impressing in domestic cricket, including a standout performance in the Major Clubs Limited Over Tournament where he took 6-21 against Kurunegala Youth Cricket Club.
