At a rally in Kiribathgoda today, Namal Rajapaksa called for
an inquiry into the alleged distribution of firearms to the Liberation Tigers
of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). However, his call has reignited scrutiny over
allegations involving his own family.
Former cabinet minister Sripathi Suriyarachchi previously
accused President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Namal's father, of providing funds to the
LTTE in a secret deal to influence election outcomes. These claims led to
Suriyarachchi's dismissal from the cabinet, death threats, and later arrest on
unrelated charges, deepening the controversy surrounding his allegations.
Given these circumstances, Namal Rajapaksa's call for an
inquiry might also necessitate addressing allegations against his father to
ensure transparency and accountability.
