OpenAI announced that starting Monday, users can access its ChatGPT AI chatbot without requiring sign-up, marking a shift towards greater accessibility. This Microsoft-backed startup highlighted ChatGPT's capabilities in mimicking human-like conversations, summarizing texts, crafting poems, and suggesting theme party ideas.

The San Francisco-headquartered firm aims to make AI more accessible to curious individuals by gradually introducing this feature. Despite ChatGPT's record-setting growth, with web visits peaking at 1.8 billion in May 2023, its growth rate has decelerated, as per Similarweb analytics.

To ensure user safety, OpenAI has implemented enhanced content safeguards for those using ChatGPT without registration. While the specific categories for these safeguards weren't detailed, the company offers a free version of ChatGPT with restricted internet access and premium versions tailored for individuals, teams, and enterprises.

Additionally, OpenAI clarified that while it may utilize user-generated content to refine its language models, users have the option to disable this feature.

This announcement follows closely on the heels of a lawsuit filed by billionaire Elon Musk against OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, alleging a departure from the startup's original altruistic mission of developing AI for humanity's benefit rather than profit.
