All-rounder Michael Bracewell is set to lead New Zealand in their upcoming T20I tour of Pakistan, marking his return to international cricket following an injury. Additionally, uncapped batsman Tim Robinson is poised to make his debut, while fast bowler Will O'Rourke, who recently debuted in Test and ODI matches, is also included in the squad.
Bracewell has been absent from the New Zealand team since March last year due to a ruptured right Achilles tendon sustained while playing for Worcestershire in the T20 Blast, followed by a broken finger. He recently showcased his form by taking a career-best 8 for 41 in the Plunket Shield.
The squad will be without nine players participating in the IPL, as well as Will Young, who has secured an overseas deal with Nottinghamshire, Tom Latham, who is expecting his second child, and Tim Southee, who has been given an extended break for conditioning.
The Pakistan tour will be pivotal in finalizing New Zealand's T20 World Cup squad. Selector Sam Wells commented on Bracewell's return, stating, "Michael has demonstrated resilience and determination in returning to the game after a lengthy hiatus due to injury. His leadership experience at both domestic and national levels makes him a suitable candidate to lead the team in Pakistan."
21-year-old Robinson earned his spot after an impressive performance in the Super Smash, where he was the second-highest run-scorer with 298 runs at an average of 59.60 and a striking rate of 187.42
